Spotting a Phishing Email
Phishing emails are fraudulent emails attempting to steal personal or sensitive data. If you suspect an email is phishing, forward to spam@rwu.edu. Reporting these emails keeps the RWU community safe.
Below are the top signs of a phishing email. Begin by asking yourself if you were expecting this email.
Top Signs of a Phish
- Email coming from an external source. EXT will be in the subject line.
- Asking for security or password information.
- Linking to an external page.
- Pretending to be an internal person sending potentially important or time-sensitive information.
- Spelling errors in names and email addresses.
