Turnitin & Brightspace
Turnitin is is an anti-plagiarism detector and educational resource for faculty and students.
Turnitin has been is integrated into Brigthspace as an option within the Brightspace Assignments tool to automatically check each student submission.
Please make sure to follow instructions below as failing to do so will result in unprocessed submissions.
Setting up:
Students and faculty must accept a one time end user license agreement (EULA) in order to have Turnitin work correctly. Per Turnitin, this EULA is mandatory, and cannot be bypassed.
If the student DOES NOT accept the EULA when submitting, Turnitin will give an error message and will not process the submitted paper.
In order to avoid this, if you plan to use Turnitin, please create a practice assignment first in the assignments tool. Do not link this assignment in your content. Students must access the assignment through the assignment tool. Have the students navigate to the assignments tool, select the assignment, submit their practice assignment and accept the EULA.
You will only have to do this the first time you run a Turnitin assignment in your course, in order for the students to accept the EULA.
Every time thereafter, you can have your students submit assignments via the content or assignment tool, as Brightspace is designed.
For the first time:
1. Enable Turnitin in your first practice assignment
2. Have students access the assignment from the assignment tool in the navbar.
3. Confirm they have all accepted the EULA in the practice assignment w/out an error
Subsequently
1. Create you assignments as usual with Turnitin.

To check an assessment that is not an assignment, please request a separate account to manually upload the material directly into the TurnitIn platform by contacting the ID team at id@rwu.edu
