Student Start Guide: For RWU Accounts
New Students Enrolled - AFTER April 28, 2026
1. Know your username
- Your username= first initial, last name, three-digit number (e.g. jdoe165)
- The three-digit number consists of;
- The fourth number of your birthday, (e.g. 01/31/1999)
- The last number on your student ID, (e.g. 1123456)
- The last number of your Social Security number, (e.g. 4425)
2. Know your default password
- Everyone starts with a default password provided by RWU (e.g. jd4425RWU). The default password will be used to login for steps 3 and 4.
- The default password is composed of;
- Your first and last initial (lowercase) (e.g. jd)
- The last four digits of your Social Security number, (e.g. 4425)

RWU in all capitalized letters, (e.g. RWU)
3. Change your password at https://passwords.rwu.edu IMPORTANT
- Login through the “Login” box with your username and default password credentials; the Academics domain should already be selected
- Welcome message will appear to complete enrollment, setup security questions first
- Add a personal secondary recovery email under “enrollment”

- Once enrollment is complete, select “Change Password”
- Once you change your password, it will replace the default password
4. Secure your RWU Microsoft account with two-factor authentication (2FA)
- Navigate to https://o365.rwu.edu
- Enter username@students.rwu.edu and password. You will then be prompted to set up 2FA.
- Install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone
- Open the app, allow notifications, and select “Work or school account.”
- In the app select to “scan the QR code”, and scan it on your computer. Then enter the number from the screen into the app.
- You are now approved. Next screen will confirm that authentication is complete
- Your 2FA is now configured, and you can login to your RWU Microsoft account
5. Login to RWU Google account (University email)
- Navigate to https://o365.rwu.edu
- Select “Apps” > “More apps”
- Under “Get work done”, choose “Other Apps”
- Select “More in Other Apps”
- Select “RWU Google”
- If prompted, enter your username@g.rwu.edu
- You can now access your RWU Google account and email

- Enter your username@g.rwu.edu and default password
- Enter your phone number to receive verification code
- Enter six-digit code upon verification prompt
- Create a temporary password for your RWU Google account (you'll update all RWU passwords in Step 4)
- You can now access your RWU Google account and email
4. Change your password at https://passwords.rwu.edu IMPORTANT
- Login through the “Login” box with your username and default password credentials; the Academics domain should already be selected
